Plant OTR Tyre Pressure Maintenance
Your plant OTR tyres represent a sizeable investment to your business. Proplant Tyre Services recommend regular plant OTR tyre pressure maintenance to help maximise tyre service life and reduce operating costs.
All OTR plant is heavy by necessity, as the design is engineered to carry exceptionally heavy payloads during operation. This combined weight is only supported by the air pressure within the tyre and wheel assembly – making air the critical component.
However, the robust construction of OTR plant tyres makes it challenging for even the most experienced operators to detect under-inflation during their pre-shift walkaround inspections. There are few visible clues of a tyre being under-inflated by as much as 20%.
The problems of under inflated tyres
Under inflated tyres experience a range of serious problems as they flex more during operation. This not only reduces stability and traction, but it also generates more friction when they roll which leads to increased fuel consumption and accelerated tyre wear. Left unchecked, under inflation can lead to excessive temperature build-up that can result in irreversible damage to the tyres construction and ultimately rapid deflation.
The problems of over inflated tyres
Over-inflation is equally detrimental and shortens tyre service life. The contact area of the tyre is reduced which decreases traction and results in uneven tread wear. While the absence of sidewall flex leaves the tyre prone to the stress of impact damage, which can even cause the tyre to burst or deform the wheel assembly.
Proplant are professionals in tyre pressure maintenance
Maintaining correct inflation levels is the single most effective maintenance procedure. The Proplant team of skilled plant tyre professionals will maintain your OTR tyre pressures in the safest way possible; critical given the very high pressures involved. Our modern fleet of specialist service vehicles are equipped with calibrated compressors that deliver 145psi/10 bar outlet pressure to return your plant tyres to the ideal pressure and optimum rolling resistance.
Routine pressure correction provides other beneficial aspects, such as advance warning of slow punctures and uneven tread wear. This is proven to prevent escalation, unnecessary downtime and maximises the investment in your tyres.
Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems
Proplant Tyre Services are accredited installers for TPMS technologies designed for heavy plant machinery. Developed around powerful telematics platforms, the tyre sensors continuously monitor your plant OTR tyres in real-time.
This visibility provides a precise list of plant OTR tyres across all your machinery that need to have tyre pressure maintenance. As well as those within safe operating margins that do not. This saves our skilled plant tyre professionals from the time-consuming task of carefully checking every single tyre.
